Course overview
This course provides students with knowledge of basic workplace safety, an understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the skills needed to then apply key principles in the workplace. It will also provide an overview on the responsibilities of people in the workforce including steps to take to ensure the safety of themselves and others. Given a scenario students will be able to complete a job safety analysis.
Course structure
The course is theoretical. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Identify and describe legislative rights and responsibilities for workplace health and safety.
- Describe the systems approach to workplace health and safety.
- Explain how risks and hazards are defined in the HSWA 2015.
- Identify the principles of workplace safety in a given workplace and demonstrate safe work practices in a specific workplace.
- Complete a simple job safety analysis (JSA).
Course prerequisites
Students must be in work.
Assessment process
Theory assessment which takes place when student is ready. This includes completion of a JSA based on a scenario provided.
Certification
A Workplace Safety Plus certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.
Revalidation/Refresher
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.
Items to bring
- Photo ID.
- Comfortable clothing suitable for classroom.
- Covered-in footwear.
- You must bring to the course the information your organisation provided to you that identifies the staff instructions regarding H&S policies and procedures. This information is generally provided in an induction procedure or similar document.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
