Course overview
This course provides students with an understanding of the key principles of incident investigation including the concepts of multiple causation and root-cause analysis, and the skills needed to conduct an investigation and produce a report.
Course structure
The course is theoretical. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Explain why workplace accidents need to be reported and investigated.
- Explain the concepts of multiple causation and root-cause analysis.
- Detail an incident investigation process using a hypothetical incident.
- Produce an incident investigation report based on a documented incident.
Course prerequisites
None.
Assessment process
Theory assessment which takes place when the student is ready, and includes using an hypothetical incident to document an incident investigation process and producing a report based on a documented incident.
Certification
An Incident Investigation certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.
Revalidation/Refresher
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.
Items to bring
- Photo ID.
- Appropriate streetwear can be worn.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
