Course overview
Provide students with basic first aid knowledge and skills to support life in an emergency situation until qualified assistance is available.
Course structure
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Provide first aid.
- Provide basic life support.
Course prerequisites
None.
Assessment process
Practical assessment (including verbal questioning) which takes place when the student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. The assessment will involve a bleeding and shock situation, one trauma and two medical conditions from a range of scenarios.
Certification
A Practical First Aid certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.
Revalidation/Refresher
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. NZQA and the Skills Organisation identify this as every two years.
Items to bring
- Photo ID.
- Comfortable clothing suitable for participating in practical exercises.
- Covered-in footwear.
M&O Pacific Limited trading as Wood Training has been granted approval by NZQA under Section 251 of the Education Act 1989 to provide the training scheme Practical First Aid.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
