Course overview
This course provides students with an understanding of the legislation under which they become certified handlers and their legal roles and obligations under that legislation, should they become handlers.
Course structure
The course is delivered online and includes topics that you work through at your own pace before you undertake the formal assessment.
After you contact Wood Training or book the course, we will send you a confirmation email with a link to the course and a self-enrolment key. You will be prompted in the system to set up a profile with information that we need for your enrolment.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Describe requirements relevant for a certified handler.
- Demonstrate knowledge of hazardous substances relevant to their role.
- Describe emergency procedures involving hazardous substances relevant to their role.
Unit standard prerequisite
US31290 is the pre requisite for US31291. You will be co-enrolled in both courses to achieve the outcomes required.
This course is assessed at Level 5 of the New Zealand’s Qualification Framework and is a written assessment. Due to the level of complexity in this course, it is recommended that students hold a qualification at Level 2 as a minimum.
Certification
A Competency Requirements for Certified Handler certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.
Revalidation/Refresher
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary.
Requirement for the Certified Handlers Certificate to be refreshed/renewed after five years.
Things you need
- Photo ID.
- A copy of current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the products handled.
- Access to a computer and stable internet (see page 2 for specifications).
- An email address.
Cost
There is a cost to apply for a Certified Handler certificate through a Compliance Certifier. The process for the Certifier to review and award a Handler certificate will take around 30 days.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
