Course overview
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills in helicopter safety procedure, impact preparations and escape.
Course structure
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Deploy an Underwater Escape Module (UEM) when appropriate to escape an underwater simulated vehicle which is partially submerged.
- Escape when capsized by:
- cabin/cross cabin escape.
- window escape.
- rear escape.
- zero vision escape.
- involves an incapacitated crew.
Course prerequisites
Prior to undertaking the course we must be provided with a completed Wood Training HUET-related (Non OPITO) Medical Self-declaration and Screening form.
If you answer “yes” to any of the questions in this form we recommend you talk to a registered medical practitioner to ascertain your fitness for the training OR provide a valid recent medical certificate.
Assessment process
Practical assessment which takes place when the student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. Assessment involves a range of scenarios including surface escape, partial submersion and capsize.
Certification
A Military Helicopter Underwater Escape Training certificate will be awarded to students who successfully complete the theory and practical components of the course.
Revalidation/Refresher
Valid for 3 years.
Items to bring
- Photo ID.
- Covered-in footwear
- Swimming attire and towel.
- Personal toiletries (for shower).
- Military immersion suits.
- PFD and compressed air unit.
- Water bottle.
Health
A Wood Training HUET-related (Non OPITO) Medical Self-declaration and Screening form (as a minimum) is mandatory prior to course commencement.
All students participating in this course which has physically demanding and potentially stressful elements must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
