DESCRIPTION:COURSE OVERVIEW\n\nThis course provides learners with the basic knowledge and skills\nrequired when using height safety equipment while working at height.\n\nThe unit standard offered on this course is not intended for those\nworking in the construction industry (which has its own unit standard)\nor those who work in highly specialised or high risk applications.\n\n \n\nCOURSE STRUCTURE\n\nThis is a public course and includes both theoretical and practical\nsessions.\n\nFollowing the theoretical session learners then practice identifying,\nselecting, inspecting, and donning appropriate height safety\nequipment. They also experience being at height in a controlled,\nsimulated environment under trainer supervision.\n\nAssessment of practical activities is not permitted by the units\nstandard setting body in an simulated environment therefore post\ncourse, learners are to conduct work at height in a actual workplace\nenvironment under the supervision and observation of a competent\nverifier.\n\n \n\nLEARNING OUTCOMES\n\nAt the end of this course students will be able to:\n\n *\nidentify the common types of height safety equipment employed on\nheight work in the workplace.\n\n *\nidentify suitable height work equipment.\n\n *\nidentify suitable anchor points for fall and arrest systems.\n\n *\nemploy height safety equipment in a workplace environment.\n\n *\nplan rescue techniques and emergency procedures for working at heights\nin the workplace.\n\n \n\nCOURSE PREREQUISITES\n\nNone.\n\n \n\nASSESSMENT PROCESS \n\nTheory assessment followed at a later date by practical demonstration\nof skills in a workplace environment.\n\nThe post-course practical activity must involve completing a\ndesignated job/task at height within a real workplace setting.\nLearners are required to detail the work performed, identify and\nselect suitable height safety equipment, carry out pre-use safety\ninspections, recognise potential hazards, and outline appropriate\ncontrol measures which is to be evidenced in a ‘on job assignment’\ndocument that is submitted to Wood Training for review.\n\nThe job/task must be supervised by a competent verifier who is to\nreview the learners OJA document (and any accompanying evidence which\nmay include completed company checklists) and then complete the\nwitness section of the OJA including a declaration of the learners\noverall knowledge, skills and abilities. \n\n \n\nCERTIFICATION\n\nA Heights Safety Certificate will be issued on successful completion\nof this course and the post course on job assignment component.\n\n \n\nREVALIDATION/REFRESHER\n\nTo maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher\ntraining occurs regularly.  Depending on the industry you work in\nthis may vary.  Current Wood Training recommendation is every two\nyears.\n\n \n\nITEMS TO BRING\n\n * Photo ID.\n * Comfortable clothing suitable for classroom.\n * Covered-in footwear.\n\n \n\nHEALTH\n\nMust be physically capable of climbing at height.\n\n \n\nELIGIBILITY\n\nStudents eligible to study with Wood Training are:\n\n * Permanent Residents,\n * Australian Citizens, or\n * Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by\ntheir employer.\n\nProof of eligibility is required. Please do not book people into this\ncourse if they do not meet these criteria.
