DESCRIPTION:COURSE OVERVIEW\n\nThis course provides students with an update on incident scene\nmanagement and patient assessments; the use of medical oxygen and\nassociated equipment; and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use.\n\n \n\nCOURSE STRUCTURE\n\nThe course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions.\nStudents are assessed continuously during the course.\n\n \n\nLEARNING OUTCOMES\n\nAt the end of this course students will be able to:\n\n 	* Provide PHEC response for a range of scenarios when a casualty is\nboth conscious and unconscious. \n 	* Monitor the blood glucose and blood pressure of a casualty.\n 	* Measure and insert an OPA to maintain a patent airway for a\ncasualty.\n 	* Provide enhanced basic life support.\n 	* Clear and maintain a clear and open airway for a casualty.\n\n \n\nCOURSE PREREQUISITES\n\n 	* A current First Aid certificate with US 6400 or US 23406 that is\nno older than two years and three months.\n 	* Must hold US 14473, 25411 and 25412 or US 29321 or equivalent\nacceptable by Wood Training completed or refreshed within the last two\nyears. \n\n \n\nASSESSMENT PROCESS\n\nTheory assessment followed by practical assessment (including verbal\nquestioning) which takes place when the student is ready/has shown\nthat they can perform all tasks required.  \n\nAssessment will involve:\n\n 	* Simulated emergency situations which may include heart attack,\ndrowning, smoke inhalation, electrocution, natural disaster or motor\nvehicle accident for a conscious and unconscious casualty.  \n 	* Skills stations: casualty monitoring, using an OPA, provision of\nenhanced basic life support, maintaining clear and open airways.\n\n \n\nCERTIFICATION\n\nA Basic Pre Hospital Emergency Care Refresher certificate will be\nissued on successful completion of this course.\n\n \n\nREVALIDATION/REFRESHER\n\nTo maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher\ntraining occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in,\nthis may vary. The current Wood Training recommendation is every two\nyears.\n\n \n\nITEMS TO BRING\n\n 	* Photo ID.\n 	* Appropriate streetwear can be worn.\n\n \n\nELIGIBILITY\n\nStudents eligible to study with Wood Training are:\n\n 	* Permanent Residents,\n 	* Australian Citizens, or\n 	* Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by\ntheir employer.\n\nProof of eligibility is required.
