DESCRIPTION:COURSE OVERVIEW\n\nThe students will be familiar with incident scene and patient\nassessments, the use of medical oxygen and associated equipment, AED\nand extrication devices in an emergency medical and trauma situation.\n\n \n\nCOURSE STRUCTURE\n\nThe course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions.\nStudents are assessed continuously during the course.\n\n \n\nLEARNING OUTCOMES\n\nAt the end of this course students will be able to:\n\n 	* Assess and manage the scene of an emergency situation.\n 	* Perform a primary survey to identify any life threats.\n 	* Perform a secondary survey.\n 	* Demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe patient moving and lifting\ntechniques without injury to self, patient or others.\n 	* Demonstrate and apply knowledge of devices and/or techniques to\nmanage patients in an emergency situation.\n 	* Monitor patients and provide information in an emergency\nsituation.\n 	* Recognise signs of stress in self and apply appropriate strategies\nto mitigate effects.\n 	* Demonstrate and apply knowledge of requirements relating to\npatient information and documenting events.\n\n \n\nCOURSE PREREQUISITES\n\nA current First Aid certificate with NZQA US 6400 or US 23406 that is\nno older than two years and three months, or demonstrate equivalent\nknowledge and skills that are acceptable to Wood Training.\n\n \n\nASSESSMENT PROCESS\n\nTheory assessment followed by practical assessment (including verbal\nquestioning) which takes place when the student is ready/has shown\nthat they can perform all tasks required.  The assessment will\ninvolve simulated emergency situations and will include primary and\nsecondary surveys, patient handling and lifting techniques. \n\n \n\nCERTIFICATION\n\nA Basic Pre Hospital Emergency Care certificate will be issued on\nsuccessful completion of this course.\n\n \n\nREVALIDATION/REFRESHER\n\nTo maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher\ntraining occurs regularly.  Depending on the industry you work in\nthis may vary.  Current Wood Training recommendation is every two\nyears.\n\n \n\nITEMS TO BRING\n\n 	* Photo ID.\n 	* Appropriate streetwear can be worn.\n\n \n\nHEALTH  \n\nMust be physically capable of assisting with a casualty lift. \n\n \n\nELIGIBILITY\n\nStudents eligible to study with Wood Training are:\n\n 	* Permanent Residents,\n 	* Australian Citizens, or\n 	* Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by\ntheir employer.\n\nProof of eligibility is required.
