DESCRIPTION:COURSE OVERVIEW\n\nThis course is for those who are required to communicate with crane\noperators.  It provides students with the ability to apply risk\nmanagement and hazard control knowledge; plan to rig and sling loads;\nprepare and sling regular loads and communicate during operations.\n\nThis unit standard is required by the Approved Code of Practice for\nCranes to operate as a Dogman slinging loads.  It is also a\npre-requisite unit standard for a number of other crane unit\nstandards.\n\n \n\nCOURSE STRUCTURE\n\nA combination of theoretical and practical training. There is a theory\nassessment for all students, followed by an individual practical\nassessment per student.  \n\n \n\nLEARNING OUTCOMES \n\nAt the end of this course, students will be able to:\n\n 	* Apply knowledge of risk management, hazard control, and rigging\nplanning to slinging regular loads.\n 	* Demonstrate knowledge of the difference between regular loads and\nirregular loads.\n 	* Demonstrate crane industry communication methods.\n 	* Prepare and sling regular loads, and safely direct a crane during\ncrane operations.\n\n \n\nREQUIREMENTS\n\nEvidence for directing cranes capable of slewing and luffing for at\nleast 40 lifts using hand signals and 2-way radios in your working\nenvironment.\n\nThe evidence of this will be through your workplace Crane Operators\nLogbooks or through a student logbook signed by your supervisor. \nThis evidence can be gathered before the theory session or after. \nThe unit will not be awarded until theory, practical and log book\nevidence is completed. \n\n \n\nCOURSE PREREQUISITES\n\nUnit Standard 30072. For those experienced in the field, the\npre-requisite may be waived on the basis of an attestation that\nindicates the trainee IS ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE EQUIVALENT KNOWLEDGE AND\nSKILLS THAT ARE EQUIVALENT TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE UNIT STANDARD\n30072. See Wood Training for information.\n\n \n\nASSESSMENT PROCESS\n\nTheory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place\nwhen student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks\nrequired. Assessment involves two observed lifts including preparing\nand slinging loads and safely directing crane operations.\n\n \n\nCERTIFICATION\n\nUpon successful completion of this course students will be issued with\na certificate.\n\n \n\nREFRESHER\n\nTo maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher\ntraining occurs regularly.  Depending on the industry you work in\nthis may vary.  Current Wood Training recommendation is every three\nyears.\n\n \n\nITEMS TO BRING\n\n 	* Photo ID.\n 	* Correct PPE for practical component (e.g. hard hat, overalls,\ngloves, steel cap shoes, Hi-Viz, ear protection).\n 	* Comfortable clothing suitable for classroom situation.\n\n \n\nELIGIBILITY\n\nStudents eligible to study with Wood Training are:\n\n 	* Permanent Residents,\n 	* Australian Citizens, or\n 	* Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by\ntheir employer.\n\nProof of eligibility is required.
