Course overview
This course provides students with the skills and knowledge of gas testing in the energy and chemical industry, and the ability to identify appropriate testing equipment, perform gas tests and interpret and respond to the results.
Course structure
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of gas testing and related hazards in the energy and chemical industry.
- Perform gas tests, and interpret and respond to gas test results, in an energy and chemical plant.
- Demonstrate knowledge of atmospheric testing in potentially hazardous environments.
- Conduct atmospheric tests.
- Interpret and respond to atmospheric testing results.
Course prerequisites
None.
Assessment process
Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. The practical consists of three gas tests ensuring pre start checks are carried out and test environment monitored.
Certification
A Gas Testing certificate will be issued on successful completion of all assessment requirements.
Revalidation/Refresher
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.

- Photo ID.
- Comfortable clothing suitable for classroom.
- Covered-in footwear.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
