Course overview

This course enables students to refresh knowledge of the safe operation of a forklift and the legal obligations pertaining to that plant in a place of work. Skills are refreshed in the completion of pre-operational checks prior to operations, parking and shutting down a forklift .

 

Course structure

A combination of theoretical and practical training and assessment. 

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the safe operation of a forklift.
  • Perform a preoperational inspection and start up procedure for a forklift.
  • Demonstrate practical forklift skills.
  • Park and shut down a forklift.

 

Course prerequisites

Hold a current Forklift Operators Certificate.

 

Assessment process

Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. Assessment involves operating a Forklift without a load and stacking and de-staking a load.

 

Certification

Forklift Operator certification ‘(WorkSafe NZ, formerly OSH)' will be awarded to students who achieve a minimum of 80% pass in both theory and practical components.  

 

Revalidation/Refresher

Certification refresher every three years as per the Approved Code of Practice for Training Operators and Instructors of Powered Industrial Lift Tucks (Forklifts), and Competenz ITO requirements.

 

Students must have attended their previous forklift certificate through Wood to attend a revalidation course.  If you have done training with another company we will ask you to provide us with your operator certification or you will be required to attend the full WorkSafe NZ Certification course again.

 

Items to bring

  • Photo ID.
  • Comfortable clothing with covered footwear suitable for classroom situation. 
  • PPE requirements for practical:

             - Safety boots.

             - All other PPE will be supplied.

 

Eligibility

Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:

  • Permanent Residents,
  • Australian Citizens, or
  • Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
