Course overview
This course is designed to meet further offshore emergency training requirements for the oil and gas industry personnel.
Course structure
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that they can use the safety equipment and follow procedures in preparing for and during helicopter emergencies – with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following ditching.
- Demonstrate that they can use basic firefighting equipment effectively, and use self rescue techniques in low visibility and completely obscured visibility situations e.g. smoke filled areas.
- Demonstrate that they can perform basic first aid.
Course prerequisites
The FOET (with EBS) is open to those who have a valid (in-date) OPITO-approved BOSIET (with CA-EBS), BOSIET, TBOSIET, FOET (with CA-EBS), FOET or TFOET certificate.
Medical requirements
Prior to undertaking the course we must be provided with a copy of one of the following:
a) a Wood Training OPITO Medical Declaration and Screening form – with a sign off from a General Practitioner, OR
b) a Wood Training OPITO Medical Declaration and Screening form – with a current OGUK medical (for going offshore), OR
c) a Wood Training OPITO Medical Declaration and Screening form - with an approved equivalent of an offshore medical (organisation specific).
Assessment process
Practical assessments which takes place when the student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required.
If a student is deemed not competent, the process for reassessment will be advised by the instructor.
Certification
An OPITO approved FOET certificate will be awarded to students who successfully complete the theory and all practical components of the course. Results will be submitted to OPITO.
Revalidation
Valid for 4 years. Must be renewed within 4 years prior to expiry date otherwise a full BOSIET is required.
Forward Dating
Refresher training (FOET) can be undertaken up to three months prior to the expiry date marked on your existing in-date valid BOSIET or FOET certificate. This allows you to book in advance at a time to suit your schedule without losing any time. NOTE combined course code certificates are not eligible for forward dating, contact Wood for more details.
Items to bring
- Photo ID.
- Comfortable clothing for theory sessions.
- Swimming attire and towel.
- Thermal top to wear under dry suit (optional).
- Covered-in footwear. (Safety footwear optional otherwise gumboots can be provided)
- Spare pair of socks.
- Water bottle.
Health
A current Medical Certificate accompanied by a Wood Training Medical Self Declaration and Screening form, OR GP-signed Wood Training Medical Self Declaration and Screening form is MANDATORY prior to course commencement. All students participating in this course which has physically demanding and potentially stressful elements must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
