Course overview

This course is ideal training for all people who work at heights or with a potential to fall.

 

Course structure

The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course. 

  • Day 1: Harness safety and legislation 
  • Day 2: Practical work at height

 

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the hazards associated with wearing a safety harness and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety harnesses and associated systems and equipment.
  • Check and fit a safety harness system.
  • Use a safety harness system where a fall hazard exists at height.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the rescue plan to be implemented in the event of a fall.
  • Identify anchor points and prepare to install a temporary proprietary height safety system.
  • Install horizontal and vertical temporary proprietary height safety systems.
  • Use temporary proprietary height safety systems.
  • Disestablish temporary proprietary height safety systems.

 

Unit Standard prerequisite

US23229 is the pre requisite for US15757. You can achieve both during the course.

 

Assessment process 

Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required.  The practical consists of the installation of use of temporary proprietary height safety systems at a minimum height of 2 metres.

 

Course duration

2 Days.

 

Certification 

A Heights Safety - Advanced Certificate will be issued upon successful completion of this course.

 

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.

 

Items to bring

  • Photo ID.
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for classroom.
  • Covered-in footwear.

 

Health  

Must be physically capable of climbing at height.

 

Eligibility

Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:

  • Permanent Residents,
  • Australian Citizens, or
  • Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
