Course overview
This course provides students with an update on current best practices and opportunity to demonstrate continued competency in correct fire fighting techniques.
Course structure
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Course prerequisites
Current medical certificate.
NZQA US 3271, 3272 and 4647 or a documented equivalent that is deemed acceptable by Wood Training and an annual BA sign off is required before undertaking this training.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Commission SCBA sets.
- Handle hoses.
- Demonstrate fire control in a pressurised gas fire situation, and in a range of pressurised fuel fires of different sizes.
- Wear and operate SCBA in range of fire situations/scenarios including rescue.
Assessment process
Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when the student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. The assessment will involve team activity.
Certification
A Emergency Response Team Member (Fire) Refresher certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.
Revalidation/Refresher
2 yearly with a proof of annual BA wearing
Items to bring
- Photo ID.
- Comfortable clothing suitable for wearing under Fire Fighting attire.
- Socks.
- Covered-in footwear.
- Water bottle.
- Change of clothes and towel for available shower.
Health
A MEDICAL is MANDATORY prior to course commencement.
Research shows that you are more susceptible to heat distress disorders if you consume alcohol within 24 hours of training with live fire. We recommend you do not consume alcohol 24 hours before training nor over the days of training.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
