Course overview
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to manage less common, but severe medical and trauma in emergency situations.
Course structure
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Manage first aid in an emergency situation.
- Provide first aid.
- Provide basic life support.
Course prerequisites
None.
Assessment process
Practical assessment (including verbal questioning) which takes place when the student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required.
The assessment will involve simulated emergency situations covering trauma; a medical injury; and a patient with multiple problems or more than one casualty.
Certification
A Comprehensive First Aid certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.
Revalidation/Refresher
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. NZQA and Toitu te Waiora identify this as every two years.
Items to bring
- Photo ID.
- Appropriate streetwear can be worn.
Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
