Course overview
This course provides students with knowledge of basic workplace safety, an understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the skills needed to then apply key principles in the workplace. It will also provide an overview on the responsibilities of people in the workforce including steps to take to ensure the safety of themselves and others. Given a scenario students will be able to complete a job safety analysis.
Course structure
This course consists of online learning modules that you work through at your own pace. At the very end of the course there are summative assessment tasks.
After you contact Wood Training, we will send you a confirmation email with a link to the course and a self-enrolment key. You will be prompted in the system to set up a profile, with information that we need for your enrolment.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Identify and describe legislative rights and responsibilities for workplace health and safety.
- Describe the systems approach to workplace health and safety.
- Explain how risks and hazards are defined in the HSWA 2015.
- Identify the principles of workplace safety in a given workplace and demonstrate safe work practices in a specific workplace.
- Complete a simple job safety analysis (JSA).
Course prerequisites
Students must be in work.
Assessment process
Theory assessment which takes place when student is ready. This include completion of a JSA based on a scenario provided.
Certification
After successful completion of the online course you will be issued with an electronic badge. Before we can issue you with a formal Taranaki Passport Plus Certificate, you will need to contact Wood Training with proof of identity.
Revalidation/Refresher
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.

Eligibility
Students eligible to study with Wood Training are:
- Permanent Residents,
- Australian Citizens, or
- Holders of work-visas who are required to undertake training by their employer.
